Out of his pain and frustration, Job said, “Before I go to the place from which I shall not return, To the land of darkness and the shadow of death” (Job 10:21 NKJV). Since it is the Devil who has had “the power of death,” it is “through fear of death” he gets people to serve him (Hebrews 2:14-15 NKJV). It is when people fear death, they “eat and drink, for tomorrow we die” (1 Corinthians 15:32 NKJV). People use the fear of death to justify walking, “according to our own plans, and we will every one obey the dictates of his evil heart” (Jeremiah 18:12 NKJV). Dwelling upon death, dying, pain and suffering simply builds the “fear of death.” Jesus “abolished death…through the gospel” (2 Timothy 1:10 NKJV). It is not death, but “after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27 NKJV) for which we must prepare.
