“For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty” (2 Peter 1:16 NKJV). Peter, James, and John had seen what took place on that Mount of Transfiguration that is recorded in Matthew 17:1-9; Mark 9:2-9; and Luke 9:28-36. It is important that we know: (1) the written accounts of this are accurately recorded; (2) Peter, as an eyewitness, verified that event in Christ’s life on earth; (3) God had spoken from Heaven to point out Jesus as “My beloved Son. Hear Him.” The Bible is not full of “fables” (the Greek word is “myths”), and should not be treated as such. What is written in the Bible should not be “jumbled up” as if it doesn’t matter, and outside stories must never be added into the Bible text.
