Who started the church of Christ? Jesus Christ, of course. After Peter confessed: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God,” Jesus told the Apostles, “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:16-18 NKJV). The church of Christ “He [has] purchased with His own blood” (Acts 20:28 NKJV). People who want to be in the church must “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38 NKJV). Those who “gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them” (Acts 2:41 NKJV). And since “the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved” (Acts 2:47 NKJV), that’s exactly who the church of Christ is today.
