The son of Rehoboam, Abijah, became king over Judah, and for three years he reigned. His reign, however, was not as virtuous as this chapter might encourage one to think. In fact, as was his father, so with the son; there was confusion in the heart (1 Kings 15:3). On this occasion the Lord used the king of Judah to bring the king of Israel to his knees.
Application: A key verse in the chapter is v. 18: “the men of Judah prevailed because they relied on the LORD God of their ancestors.” We all understand what is being said here; our encouragement is to not forget it.
