Can people only pray and receive a spiritual relationship with God? Saul of Tarsus certainly had tried for “three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank” (Acts 9:9). But it wasn’t until Ananias said, “And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22:16 NKJV). His fervent prayers did not begin his relationship with God until he was baptized to “wash away” his sins. Later, as the Apostle Paul, he wrote, “for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life” (1 Timothy 1:16 NKJV). The “pattern” for all who believe on Jesus Christ included “baptism” to wash away his sins! Our spiritual relationship with God begins by following the “pattern.”
