“And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them” (Exodus 25:8 NKJV). Under Moses, the Israelites’ “tabernacle” (or tent) was where God was represented as being among them, thus the sacred place, or “sanctuary.” Jesus Christ removed Israel’s “sanctuary,” and is “a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man” (Hebrews 8:2 NKJV). Jesus “sanctuary” is His church. He said, “on this rock I will build My church” (Matthew 16:18 NKJV), which is “not of this world” (John 18:36 NKJV). Where does God dwell among His people, today? Paul wrote to the church of Christ in Corinth saying, “you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will dwell in them And walk among them” (2 Corinthians 6:16 NKJV). No church building today is, or has, a “sanctuary” of God! `
