A Contrast

What stands out to me about the Samaritan woman is not the woman so much, but the contrast between two chapters. In C-3, the Lord speaks to one highly educated and highly esteemed in the community, both religious and non-religious (presumably). However, in C-4, just the opposite occurs – the Lord speaks to one so easily regarded as a misfit, one despised because of a moral failing, an affiliation failing, and a gender failing.

To the Lord, and it should be to us also, the Lord regards all the same – in need of salvation and hope.
