A five year-old boy playing Superman after watching his hero on television, set fire to a sofa and tried to blow out the flames, but instead burned his house down. It seems he was imitating a scene from the movie where Superman blew out a fuel truck fire. While there are still some who deny that television affects the thinking and action of children, their ranks have dwindled in recent years. With the emergence of research studies proving a direct link between television viewing habits and concepts, values and beliefs. There is a subtle, sinister brainwashing effect that creates a climate for compromise. That which amazed our parents, amuse our children; that which once raised eyebrows no longer produces even a shrug of the shoulders.
