“We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did–and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died” 1 Corinthians 10:8.
It is always difficult to handle a taboo topic. But, it is all around us. Our culture is saturated in it, and our resistance is so down that things that would have shocked a generation or two ago are accepted, tolerated, and batted about causually by us – and especially our young people! But God has said that among us there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality. Satan wants anything but for us to discuss this topic as it gets into areas of modesty, entertainment choices, and relationships. And sadly, many in the pews would rather this not be addressed either. It either makes us squirm or intrudes too much into an area of privatized “truth” that we have built up for ourselves. In the story that the Israelites served as a warning to us in, God, who does not change, had a “zero-tolerance” policy for this. 23,000 of God’s people died for sexual immorality with the Moabite women. Perhaps it is time to examine our individualized attitude toward this and see how our actions meet God’s standard for His people.
Do you tolerate more than a hint?
