One of the most humorous stories in the Bible (in my view), is the reply of Aaron to Moses when Moses asked him why the people were engaged in all kinds of dancing (probably “dirty dancing”). Aaron replied that the people were bent on mischief, thus they decided to make their own gods (you know, “the church of your choice” kind of mindset). Aaron went along with their scheme and told them to throw in all of their gold into a prepared fire. The text then says, “there came out this calf” (Exodus 32:19-24).
This incident often reminds me of the comedian, Flip Wilson, when he would say, “The devil made me do it.” And because “the devil made me do it, voilà, here came out this calf.” God does indeed have a sense of humor. 🙂
