Apr. 11. The Jews Attempt to Arrest Jesus

Jn. 7:30-8:1

The Pharisees and chief priests sent officers to arrest Jesus and as they approached, they could hear Him teaching. Members of the crowd were stating that He was the Prophet and others that He was the Christ. There was much division because of Him and the officers returned without laying a hand on Him.

When the officers returned, the chief priests and Pharisees said, “Why have you not brought Him?”

The officers replied, “No man ever spoke like this Man!”

As the Pharisees continued their questions, they accused the officers of also being deceived and the crowd of being ignorant of the law.

Nicodemus, the Pharisee who had come to Jesus by night and received teaching about the new birth reminded them that the law does not judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing.

After his fellow rulers had scolded and belittled Nicodemus, everyone went home. Jesus, who had no home, went to the Mount of Olives, possibly to the home of Lazarus and his sisters.
