Arturo Toscanini the superb conductor was a perfectionist…

Arturo Toscanini, the superb conductor, was a perfectionist. He drove himself and his musicians with urgent intensity. On one occasion, while performing Beethoven’s ninth Symphony, everything fell into perfect place. Went through, the musicians looked at each other as if to say this was marvelous, even the maestro will be satisfied. The audience sat in absolute silence, often the highest compliment that can be paid for a performance. Toscanini remained at the podium, his arms slightly raised. He leaned forward and spoke to the orchestra. “Who am I? Who are you? Toscanini is nothing. You are nothing. Beethoven is everything!” Friends, there is no yardstick short enough to measure a life without God. God is everything. “For in him we live and move and have our being.” Toscanini had it right when he said he was nothing and they were not. This is Just-A-Minute with Ed Boggess
