As far as technology and electronic devices are concerned, our present society is light years from what folks had 100 years ago. However, morality has dramatically plunged to a much lower level, simply because our society has left God out of the equation (cf. Isaiah 1; Romans 1:21-32).
There’s no longer the “trust” we once enjoyed regarding human relationships. Who can we trust today? Very few folks. Can we leave our doors unlocked, trusting that no one will bring bodily harm to our family, or break in to steal everything we have? My grandmother never locked a door in her lifetime (she was 93 when she passed). Everyone she met, suddenly became her “friend,” because there was trust in people and relationships. That trust rarely exists anymore.
We see a lack of trust in business. Why do we have to show our drivers license at almost every place of business before we can check out our merchandise? Back in the 50’s and 60’s I can remember being able to write a check anywhere in the USA, and businesses would accept it, no questions asked. When folks in business made a promise or pledge and shook hands on it – that was the contract – no paperwork was necessary and no lawyers were involved. Rarely does that exist today.
In the society I grew up in, we hugged almost everyone we met, because that act brought folks closer together to one another. Today, we’d be accused of sexual harassment. Why is that? A lack of trust between people.
Why is the church not growing today as it was in the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s? Lack of trust brought on by our lack of making application of the principles and teachings found in the Scriptures to our lives and daily living (Hebrews 5:13-14).
Solution: Start being what God wants us to be and start doing what God wants us to do (Deuteronomy 6:24-25; Deuteronomy 10:12-13; Ecclesiastes 12:13-14; Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16; James 1:19-27).
