Bible Reading – Luke 21

1. Quantity or quality (21:1-33). The poor woman who gave much, but her outward adornment was not so much illustrates well the poverty of the Temple complex and the people of Israel. The Lord speaks of the destruction of Jerusalem, not the end of the world. How do we know? The answer is found in 21:32. He speaks with certainty (21:33), and it was but a generation later that Jerusalem was, indeed, sacked by the Romans.

2. Encouragement (21:34-38). The language the Lord uses is very descriptive and one that gets the attention of any who hears (reads). The Lord’s encouragement is in the warning He gives to those to whom He spoke. They were forewarned; thus when it came they would be ready to tend to their physical safety.
