Rising Joy by Vicki Matheny
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him, because all that is in the world (the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance produced by material possessions) is not from the Father, but is from the world. And the world is passing away with all its desires, but the person who does the will of God remains forever. 1 John 2.15-17
What is it that drives you? Do you chase after things and live in a house that is filled to the roof top with things that you rarely use? Do you chase after the latest fad or fashion?
John warned not to love the world or the things that are in it. Jesus taught that you cannot serve two masters, Matthew 6.24. One will always have priority. If that priority is the world, you cannot love God. God will not share his throne with anyone or anything. He alone is God. The things of the world do not come from him.
Which would you prefer to have, something that is here today and gone tomorrow? Or would you prefer eternal life? The choice is yours to make.
