Seems that hymnology has gotten complicated. Many songs are hard for new people to pick up on.
Wish I had enough smarts to work on new songs that were easy to sing — not chants necessarily, though that might not be bad. My experience in that area is non-existent. My background never delved into chants.
But it appears we could use more songs that really do emphasize the words more than the music.
If you’re in a congregation where people have been Christians for umpteen hundred years, you probably don’t feel this need. But where many or most of the people are new, it shows up, and sometimes acutely.
I’ll probably get some traditionalists blasting these ideas. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.
