As Moses was coming to the end of his journey with the children of Israel, he pronounced a blessing upon each of the tribes. He had been their leader for forty years. They had been freed from slavery in Egypt; entered the covenant with God; had endured many hardships caused by their own mistrust and complaining and were then prepared to enter the Promised Land under the leadership of Joshua.
God had fed and watered the Israelites and had kept them clothed. When they faced hostile nations, He had given their enemies into their hands. Moses concluded his blessings by stating, “Happy are you O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, The shield of your help And the sword of your majesty! Your enemies shall submit to you, And you shall tread down their high places”
