Dec. 24. Biblical Name of the church?

There are no denominational names in the Bible. The Lord’s church does not have a name in the Scriptures. There are descriptive terms in the Bible such as body of Christ, bride of Christ, church of Christ, church of God and others.

Notice that the word “church” is never written as “Church” in the Scriptures. Unfortunately, in an effort to distinguish the church from denominations, it has been labeled as “Church of Christ” which to the world makes the church seem to be just another denomination. Many are beginning to refer to the Lord’s church in today’s society as simply, “church of Christ” with no upper case “c” in church. More than one congregation would be known as “churches of Christ” (Rom. 16:16).
