Dec. 3. Moses Dies on Mount Nebo

Deut. 32:48-52; 34:1-12

There has never been another man like Moses. He, with the guidance of God had led the chosen people out of the physical bondage of Egyptian slavery and to the entrance of the Promised Land. Moses was a type of Christ the Messiah, who was to come many years later to lead all people out of the slavery of sin into the promised home with God in heaven. Disobedience kept many of the Israelites from entering Canaan. Likewise, disobedience will prevent many from entering heaven.

Moses was barred from entering the Promised Land because of his own disobedience. However, God allowed him to climb Mount Nebo and view the vast expanse of Canaan. Having seen the land, Moses died at the age of one hundred twenty years. God buried him in an unmarked grave in a valley in the land of Moab. His eventful life was marked by forty years of luxury living in the house of Pharaoh, King of Egypt, forty years of exile in Midian and forty years as God’s spokesman leading the children of Israel.
