Dec. 31. Awaiting 2017

Phil. 3:12-4:1

Look at the positives of 2016 and be thankful; look at the negatives and determine to adjust our lives as we move forward into 2017. Paul had many negatives in his life that could have rendered him as a hopeless failure. However, he refused to allow past mistakes to rule his life. He stated, “Not that I have already attained…but I press on, that I may lay hold…but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

The Christian life requires constant service. One cannot assume that he has completed his task as long as he is physically and mentally able to perform. In view of the ultimate reward in heaven, Paul urged the Philippians to remain faithful in their obedience to the Lord.

We look upon 2017 and future years as a clean slate on which to write our future accomplishments. If not faithfully following Christ, now is the time to resolve to change. Now is the day of salvation (II Cor. 6:2). Let us all move forward and use our talents and opportunities to “write” a beautiful page for the Lord.
