Deuteronomy 1

  1. Nearly forty-one years after having left Egypt, the children of Israel are hearing Moses “explain” (expound, make clear) all the words he previously spoke to this time. Moses’ expounding in chapter 1 takes us to the point of Israel’s presumptuous attitude and actions related to the events in Numbers 13 and 14.
  2. Application: God prepared the Israelites for this occasion – taking them into the land of promise. The children of Israel, however, were unprepared to go over and take the land. Their unpreparedness consisted of unbelief. The Hebrews writer, in chapters 3 and 4, talks about our own preparation and the need for us to NOT have an evil heart of unbelief.
