Deuteronomy 26

  1. Bringing the Firstfruits of the land to the Lord, and the ceremonial approach (26:1-11). A “third” (or poor) tithe given within the community (26:12-15). The proper Israelite response to the Lord’s will (26:16-19).
  2. Application: Note the Lord’s provision for certain elements in the community (26:12-15; cp. 14:28). While the poor may be with us indefinitely, there will always be propriety to tending to their needs (not wants). We may not always understand why a person is poor, but we can understand the spirit of giving when one is.
