Solomon once wrote “Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard” (Proverbs 13:15). Christians often lead hard lives because theirs is a life of sacrifice. But the life of sinners is even harder. They have to live with the fact that one day their time on earth will be over and they will face eternal separation from God.
How hard it must have been for Jesus that day on the cross when He took on the sins of the world. At that point the Father could not be with Jesus because of that sin and so He said “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me” (Mark 15:34).
Why do things the hard way when they can be done an easy way is a question I often pose to others at my job. We get paid a certain amount of money to do a job so what sense does it make to make it more taxing on our bodies when there is plenty of equipment to make our jobs easier? God gives His children plenty of “equipment” to make their time on earth easier. We have each other for support, we have the Bible for knowledge, and we have prayer to speak to Him who loves us. Why ignore the best tools on earth to make life simple? In Ecclesiastes 10:10, Solomon wrote, “If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.” In others words, Why use an axe when you have a chainsaw handy?
God gives us the tools to make our lives on this earth easy. Use some wisdom and take advantage of those heavenly tools.
