Don Ruhl gave a great answer to this “Nudge,” and, since I can’t improve on it, here are a few related comments.
It has been appalling and saddening lately to see some of our brethren join the host of people who have expressed their downright hatred of the president for which we’re supposed to be praying (1 Timothy 2:1-4). Brethren, how can we pray for this man if we wish he were dead?
The “joke” going around lately is a mock prayer that uses the Lord’s name in vain, saying, “Lord, you took my favorite actor, etc… and my favorite president is Barack Obama.” Shame on those who are spreading around this vile sentiment! Brethren, is it Christ-like for us to join the world in its disobedience of God’s word by spreading this vile sentiment? Were we warned not be conformed to the world, but to be transformed? If we join the unrepentant in their conduct, what difference is there between them and us?
Don said he’d like to know President Obama, so he could talk to him the way Daniel spoke to Nebuchadnezzar. This is a worthy idea. But, have any of our brethren who have expressed their hatred of the president tried writing him and expressing their disagreement with his policies? This kind of expression is right, but this showing of disrespect and un-Christian attitude in public, on Facebook and other venues, is a shame to the church the Savior bought with his blood and brings shame and reproach to the name of Jesus Christ.
Don, I commend you for your Christ-like answer and for your desire to teach others, even this lost president. That’s what Christians are supposed to be about. Let us cease spreading this vile “joke” around the Internet. Such conduct is despicable.
