An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land: the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes? (Jeremiah 5:30-31, ESV).
The prophet Jeremiah had a hard message that the Lord demanded he preach to the people of Judah. It was a hard message; it was hard because Judah was so insistent in their sin (Jeremiah 5:26-29). As it was then, it is today: people do not like hearing messages from the Lord along the lines that Jeremiah preached. Though people do not like it, the Lord’s preacher has no choice but to preach it; if he (not she) does not, then at his own peril, he does not.
We live in a wicked world – this is not anything new. Our wicked world consists of people living together in sin (unmarried), being promiscuous, supporting the killing of innocent children (abortion) in their support of political candidates, tearing down the family unit in supporting the unnatural association of homosexuals, drinking alcoholic beverages beyond measure, cheating one another in personal interactions or business transactions, etc. Yes, we live in a wicked world. The few that preach against this, will they end up as Jeremiah?
