Rising Joy, by Vicki Matheny
Keep thinking about things above, not things on the earth, for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3.2,3
It is so easy to get caught up in the mundane things that we have to do on a daily basis. Our work, our studies, our lives become the focus so often of our thoughts and consequently of our actions. For us to change, we have to take a step back and look up. These things are indeed important. But they are not the most important! Paul encouraged the Colossians to keep thinking about things above. Our focus needs to be on the spiritual realm which is where the true value of our lives needs to exist. Why? Here on this earth there is so much evil in existence. We get discouraged so easily with the barrage of negative information that we receive. We can come to the conclusion that it is not worth the effort to live for God. It is so easy to focus on that and lose sight of the fact that we are not of this world. Even the day-to-day same-old same-old can take our focus off of what is important and become drudgery! Which can lead us to forget where our focus should be. In Hebrews 12.2 we are encouraged to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus who is the pioneer (he paved the way) and perfecter (he completed the task) of our faith. He has already walked the path and he can show us the way! That is cause for joy.
