God’s love and the abundant life

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has launched an investigation into why a bag containing cocaine residue was found in a shuttle hangar, according to a MSNBC News report Thursday.

It is puzzling why some people seek escape in drugs and alcohol, or why it seems necessary for some folks desire an altered state of consciousness. Then, there are those whose addiction to drugs makes them feel they can’t function without them.

Heroin addicts say they first took the illegal drug to feel the “high” that comes from a dose. But, when addicted, they keep taking the drug just to feel “normal,” or good enough to carry out every-day functions.

Karl Marx, in one of his books wrote, “Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people.”

Too bad Marx never understood exactly how good God is and how much love he has for people. God loves us even though we are unlovely. He loves us even though we are directly opposed to his will. The Apostle Paul wrote, “But God commendeth his own love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from the wrath [of God] through him, (Romans 5:8-9 ASV).

Salvation by grace through faith gives people not just a way to function every day, but also abundant life with the ability to enjoy every moment to the full because of a God whose love is as vast as the oceans!
