In the local paper is an interview with a Long Island Medium. Her name is Theresa Caputo. She is a Roman Catholic; she tries to help those who are grieving as a result of loved ones who died. In order to receive her “assistance” a petitioner must pay $175 per hour for a private consultation. Among many efforts to justify her belief and practice she says, “You know how many people have gone back to their faith because of coming to see me?” As a Roman Catholic, she makes it plain that she believes in God, and it does not matter whether one is Catholic, Protestant, or Jew – she is trying to assist others to “regain” their faith when such traumas happen.
I wonder what “faith” she has in view. It certainly is not biblical faith, thus it is not a saving faith. The faith that is in view, it seems to me, is that which corresponds to 2 Corinthians 11:13-15.
Apart from the Scripture referenced above, there is another appropriate principle that fits well with being deceived by Satan; it is, “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap” (Galatians 6:7, ESV).
Her good intentions will not merit her one thing from God. The only way to be saved by the Lord Jesus is to submit oneself to His authority, and seek not to help people in ways that the Lord opposes.
