Good parenting or DNA? – JAM

A 2008 Newsweek article entitled: “But I Did Everything Right” claims that genetics may have more impact on how children turn out than good parenting practice! Harvard’s Center for Developing Children adds that it is a “revolution in understanding child development”. While I am open to the role of genetics and DNA, I am not ready to jump on the bandwagon and sign on to the latest scientific whim. Man is more than chromosones and proteins, flesh and bones. God “forms the spirit of man within him”. The spirit which God gives to each of us is made in God’s own image. Thus, no matter how our genetic code may read, our choices are our own.
