“The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil” (John 7:7, ESV). Reflect on these words just a bit. Jesus, talking to his brothers, said that he was not going up to the festival occasion just yet. In fact, his brothers asserted that when one seeks to be known there must be an effort to gain attention (7:4). Jesus, however, did not seek attention from the people. He knew that which he spoke was not going to be received by the people because – and he made it very plain – that which the people were doing was (is) evil.
If that which the people were doing was evil, and Jesus called it for what it was, should we follow his pattern? Yes, we should. Because many Christians do exactly what the Lord did they have experienced much opposition! Do you hate evil enough to speak out against it? RT
