Have you ever been duped? – JAM

In 1997 an Eagle Rock Junior High student won the Idaho Science Fair first prize. His project involved showing how easily we believe warnings of environmental problems. In his project he urged people to sign a petition demanding strict control of the chemical “hydrogen dioxide.” The petition claimed it is a major component in acid rain, if inhaled it can kill you and that it decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes. He asked 50 people if they supported a ban of the chemical. Forty-three said yes, six were undecided, and only one knew that the chemical was H20 – water. The title of his prize winning project was, “How Gullible Are We?” Need I say more? This is Just-A-Minute with Ed Boggess
