I have often considered the letter to the church in Sardis (Revelation 3:1-6). Remarkably, they had a reputation of being alive, but they were dead. They were asleep, lacking in works, and in serious need of repentance. However, some in that church were faithful to the Lord. Sometimes my feeble way of thinking impetuously blurts out, “How can that be?” Yet I am grateful for this letter because it helps to prevent a rash judgment when someone names what congregation he or she is from.
