Jan. 4. Impending Birth of Jesus Announced to Mary

Lk. 1:26-38

Six months after the impending birth of John was announced, the angel, Gabriel visited Elizabeth’s cousin, Mary. Mary was a virgin who had never been married, but she was engaged to a carpenter named Joseph. Gabriel told Mary that she would conceive a Child by the Holy Spirit and that His name would be Jesus.

The angel also told her that, “He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father, David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
