Leviticus 11

  1. Animals authorized to be eaten and those that are not (11:1-23; 41-45). Animals associated with clean/uncleanness (11:24-40). All this is associated with the Lord’s holiness (11:44-45).
  2. Application: Demarest gave a useful illustration concerning some applicability. In this chapter these regulations were given to a distinct, holy people. In the end this was all given because God was (is) holy and the Israelites are to be also. Israelites were distinct in their customs, laws, and manners. Sometimes it is easy to make a distinction between a Jew and non-Jew. It is not easy to see the difference between a Christian and a non-Christian. It is easier to see the difference between a Christian and a Muslim, but this is not always foolproof. Given that someone would be around me enough, would they be able to tell I am a Christian, or would they wonder? What would they hear in my words? What would they see in my demeanor?
