Leviticus 25

  1. In this chapter are two primary thoughts: the jubilee and regulations surrounding slavery. “The main purpose of these laws is to prevent the utter ruin of debtors. In biblical times a man who incurred a debt that he could not repay could be forced to sell off his land or even his personal freedom by becoming a slave. When left unchecked this process led to great social division…” (Wenham, p. 317). Within the jubilee concept, every man had the opportunity to make a fresh start. There was not perpetual about being in bondage (slavery).
  2. Application: The idea of a fresh start is clearly a concept in Christianity. Paul sates that those in Christ are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), and the new creation is now being built by the Lord Himself. If we will only allow ourselves to be built up into a new man…
