On one occasion, Jesus was invited to eat in the home of a Pharisee. This man was trying to determine for himself if Jesus were a prophet. His answer came, he thought, when Jesus allowed a sinful woman to wash His feet with her tears and to dry them with her hair. She also kissed His feet and anointed them with expensive oil. Surely a prophet would know that this woman was a sinner and would have nothing to do with her.
Jesus forgave this woman’s sins because she loved Him more than did the self-righteous Pharisee, who felt that he had no sins to be forgiven. The other guests at the table wondered, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?”
