May 31. Invasion and Destruction of Gog from Magog

Ezek. 38:1-39:29

Gog from Magog is an unknown ruler from an unknown country. The prophecies against this man and his nation seem to be symbolic and were used as a method to encourage Israel. They would recognize the symbolism used by the prophet. Gog would attack the innocent and apparently defenseless newly restored land, but with God’s assistance Israel would defeat the aggressor. It would be obvious to the nations around that it would not be by Israel’s power, but that God would defeat Gog and his army.

God continued His instruction to Ezekiel to prophesy the details of the destruction that would fall upon Gog. The loss of life among his army would be so great that it would take seven months (Probably figurative for a long time) for Israel to bury his dead. Only bones would remain as the birds and beasts would have consumed their blood and flesh as a sacrificial meal against God’s enemies. Israel and the Gentile nations would know that God’s power was being shown. He reiterated that the whole house of Jacob would be reunited as the one nation of His people. “…Then they shall know that I am the Lord their God…And I will not hide My face from them anymore…” (Gog and Magog may have symbolized Nebuchadnezzar and Babylon.)
