I was about 13 when I started working the hay fields in KY. It was hard work, but I really liked it. It seemed like a good deal to me. I was getting a really good workout and they were paying me.
We would ride back to the barn on top of the hay. There was this wonderful smell coming off clover hay. I’m glad they didn’t know I would have worked for free just to smell the fresh cut clover.
It provided me with a good taste of the working world. For me it proved the mantra, work hard and be rewarded. It was a good start.
