When God told Moses that it was time for him to pass from this life because he did not hallow Him at the waters of Meribah, his leadership persisted. He suggested to God that the people needed someone to succeed him as their leader. Joshua, because of his obedience was selected for that position. Eleazar, the high priest would be the people’s contact with God as Moses had been. Following God’s instructions, Moses presented Joshua before Eleazar and the congregation. He inaugurated Joshua by laying his hands on him. Both men shared the leadership of the people for a brief period of time.
