On a religious social network that I checked today for the first time in ages, someone asked in the forum area yesterday if God created hell, and if he didn’t where it came from. One might think it an odd question for the Christmas season, but the mind (and the conscience) often are not constrained by the external world. Anyway, I replied to the post this way:
Matthew 25:41 says, ““Then he [the Lord] will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” So the eternal fire, which is hell, has been “prepared” for the devil and his angels, and to there will be consigned all those who do not follow Jesus. Prepared by whom? The only possible answer is, by God, who is Judge and has created that punishment which is just and right for the rebellious.
I’m wondering if anybody else has some good insights on this question. And, yes, I find it a bit awkward to talk about hell on Christmas Day.
