Significant Sayings in Jeremiah

Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord (Jeremiah 9:23-24, NKJV). The nation of Israel was split in to two nations. The northern nation, Israel, was so corrupt the Lord sent them into Assyrian captivity; that was a violent occasion that brought their life as a nation to an end. Now, the Lord is bringing Babylon to the doorstep of Judah, but Judah pays no attention. In fact, all Judah really does is continuing in its hard way of rejection. Many of the people who lived in Judah/Jerusalem saw themselves as enlightened people, people adept at political maneuvering. These were people who believed that whatever problems they engaged, through political and secular solutions there was an answer. As is our country today so they were back then – delusional! The wisdom of this world, the strength of this world, and the wealth of this world could not stop what was coming. RT
