Some things just don’t make sense to me…

Some things just don’t make sense to me. According to a report in Britain’s Police Review Journal, the government has begun a pilot program called “Intensive Alternatives to Custody”. It assigns young offenders, in lieu of incarceration, to attend skill-building classes in gardening, fishing and learning how to apply for government benefits [5-2-09]. I have nothing against fishing or gardening. I think that is a good idea. But skill-building in applying for government benefits is too much. In Russia at the outskirts of every city each family is provided a plot of ground to plant a garden. It teaches self-dependence and provides food for the difficult winters. I wonder if something like that were tried here. This is Just-A-Minute
