What a great way to start a prayer! Solomon starts with the only God who is faithful.
“He prayed: ‘O Lord, God of Israel, there is no god like you in heaven above or on earth below! You maintain covenantal loyalty to your servants who obey you with sincerity'” (1 Kings 8:23).
The prayer also recognizes that sincere obedience is key to being recipients of God’s blessing.
This is a principle true for both testaments, for both covenants, the Mosaic and the Christian.
And the focus on God inspires that obedience.
Will Christians pray this prayer? Will we embrace the only true and living God who is loyal in his covenant to those who obey him?
Or will our prayers go to a god who accepts anything we offer?
This is the decision churches face — worship of the truth God, or idolatry.
