2-1-2017 Wrong Morals, Wrong Worship

“Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit. Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know, and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say, ‘We are delivered to do all these abominations’?” (Jeremiah 7:8-10 NKJV).  The Jews thought once they were saved, they were always saved, as some preach today.  But, “the carnal mind is enmity against God” (Romans 8:7NKJV). Solomon wrote: “Walk prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil” (Ecclesiastes 5:1 NKJV).  Our lives and worship should be God’s way. “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD” (Proverbs 15:8 NKJV).

6-5-2015 Living A Lie

Bruce Jenner had a sex change operation 63 years after the first such operation, and he supposedly Tweeted: “I’m so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self.” Really? Why does it take so much surgery and hormones to become one’s “true self.” Jesus Christ said, “He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female” (Matthew 19:4 NKJV). We are born with our sexual identify. It is a violation of our nature (“perversity”) to become something else. “Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves” (Romans 1:24 NKJV). “For the perverse person is an abomination to the LORD” (Proverbs 3:32 NKJV). Everyone who treats this as normal, exciting, courageous, or desirable partakes of his evil deed (Romans 1:32).

(#166) The Proverbs of Solomon 24:8-9-The Road To Hell Is Paved With Bad Intentions

Since God Created humans, only God can provide specific understanding of human behavior. God gave Solomon Divine Wisdom (1 Kings Chapters 3 and 10) to explain what and why behavior is as it is, and Proverbs 10:1-24:34 are randomly written, as if they were Solomon’s judgments about individual cases brought to him, or simply God-given explanations about life. New Testament passages may help see the continuation of Wisdom offered through Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 24:8-9: “He who plots to do evil Will be called a schemer. The devising of foolishness is sin, And the scoffer is an abomination to men.”

Plotting “to do evil,” and “devising of foolishness” describe one whose heart is captivated by wickedness. These were the people God destroyed in Noah’s flood (Genesis 6:5-8), in Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 13:14; 19:4-5; Ezekiel 16:49-50), in the wilderness wandering (Joshua 5:6), and will be destroyed on the Judgment Day to come (Matthew 7:13-29). This is the corrupted heart of worldly people from which Jesus Christ saves (Ephesians 2:1-3; 2 Peter 1:2-4) by obedience to His Gospel (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 18:8; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11). It is bad enough for one’s heart to “scheme” (plan, plot, or devise) evil, but “the scoffer” is the wicked person who is willing to attack righteousness and the righteous with false charges, denials, and ridicule. “A proud and haughty man –‘Scoffer’ is his name; He acts with arrogant pride” (Proverbs 21:24). Scoffers should be considered “an abomination to men” because they create confusion, wickedness, and distrust in those who would otherwise confidently follow God’s Will (Philippians 1:3-7; Hebrews 3:5-6; 10:35-39).

This has NOTHING WHATEVER to do with honest, righteous, godly Christians who, though striving to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18), may sin through temptation and weakness of the flesh (Romans 8:26; Hebrews 4:15). Another proverb says: “For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity” (Proverbs 24:16). The righteous person who stumbles and sins will “repent and pray” that God will forgive that sin (Acts 8:12-13, 22; 1 John 1:7-10), but the wicked person who has no intention of obeying Jesus Christ for forgiveness has absolutely no prospect of forgiveness (Mark 16:16; Ezekiel 18:21-29).

(#108) The Proverbs of Solomon 16:12-13-Governing the Government (#3)

Since God Created humans, only God can provide specific understanding of human behavior. God gave Solomon Divine Wisdom (1 Kings Chapters 3 and 10) to explain what and why behavior is as it is, and Proverbs 10:1-24:34 are randomly written, as if they were Solomon’s judgments about individual cases brought to him, or simply God-given explanations about life. New Testament passages may help see the continuation of Wisdom offered through Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 16:12-13: “It is an abomination for kings to commit wickedness, For a throne is established by righteousness. 13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings, And they love him who speaks what is right.”

Verse 12: An “abomination” with God is as bad as anything can be: in Proverbs alone, it is used in some 19 verses. For “kings to commit wickedness” is the same with God as: a perverse person (3:32), The Big Seven (pride, lies, killing the innocent, wicked planning, eager participation in evil, bearing false witness with lies, sowing discord among brethren, 6:16-19), dishonesty in business (11:1), justifying the wicked and condemning the just (17:15), prayer from one refusing to listen to God (28:9), in short, “whatever is highly esteemed among men” (Luke 16:15).

What can government leaders do that is “wickedness?” (1) They are pleased that their people act wickedly, like Ephraimites who “make a king glad with their wickedness, And princes with their lies” (Hosea 7:3). Samuel had shown where this will end when he said, “if you still do wickedly, you shall be swept away, both you and your king” (1 Samuel 12:25); (2) Manasseh encouraged: foreign religions, idolatry, child sacrifice, superstition, immorality, shedding innocent blood (2 Chronicles 33:1-10; 2 Kings 21:16). Not all “laws of the land” are “righteous.”

To establish a throne (or seat of power) requires “righteousness,” or respect for God and His Principles, throughout the nation (top to bottom), for “Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people. The king’s favor is toward a wise servant, But his wrath is against him who causes shame” (Proverbs 14:34-35).

Verse 13: “Righteous lips” on government leaders are but a faint, distant memory for most people, but should remain a goal with every vote! Even wicked Israelite King Ahab, put pressure upon the prophet, Micaiah, by saying: “”How many times shall I make you swear that you tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?” (1 Kings 22:16) Speaking what is right is the only solid foundation of any nation or kingdom! The King of Kings has established His spiritual kingdom entirely upon truth, for He told the Roman, Pilate: “For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice” (John 18:37).

(#93) The Proverbs of Solomon 15:8-Wasted Worship

Since God Created humans, only God can provide specific understanding of human behavior. God gave Solomon Divine Wisdom (1 Kings Chapters 3 and 10) to explain what and why behavior is as it is, and Proverbs 10:1-24:34 are randomly written, as if they were Solomon’s judgments about individual cases brought to him, or simply God-given explanations about life. New Testament passages may help see the continuation of Wisdom offered through Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 15:8-10: “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, But the prayer of the upright is His delight. The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, But He loves him who follows righteousness. Harsh discipline is for him who forsakes the way, And he who hates correction will die” (Proverbs 15:8-10).

“Wicked” denotes evil intent, corrupted purpose, someone who feeds on sins. This is NOT referring to anyone who gives in to temptation and sins, or a good person who gets led astray, or one who tries to do right and fails! That said, this proverb shows God will not accept “sacrifice” (worship) from a “wicked” person, but rejects it as “an abomination.” “The way” is wicked, “the sacrifice” is wicked, and to “forsake” God’s Way is wicked. Before Noah’s flood, Enoch had properly evaluated the world: “Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, ‘Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him’” (Jude 14-15). Truly “the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5). Their corruption was complete and they were irretrievable!

Another proverb teaches this: “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; How much more when he brings it with wicked intent! (Proverbs 21:27). God has followed this principle throughout Scripture, regardless of whether it involved His chosen people (Israelites) or aliens (Gentiles): “If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear” (Psalm 66:18); “’To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?’ Says the LORD. ‘I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, Or of lambs or goats. When you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your hand, To trample My courts? Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense is an abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies-I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting’” (Isaiah 1:11-13); “Therefore hear, you nations, And know, O congregation, what is among them. Hear, O earth! Behold, I will certainly bring calamity on this people-The fruit of their thoughts, Because they have not heeded My words, Nor My law, but rejected it. For what purpose to Me Comes frankincense from Sheba, And sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, Nor your sacrifices sweet to Me” (Jeremiah 6:18-20); “I hate, I despise your feast days, And I do not savor your sacred assemblies. Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them, Nor will I regard your fattened peace offerings” (Amos 5:21-22). God counts as vain, wasted, and completely useless, all sacrifices, worship, offerings, and assemblies by those who refuse to follow His rules.

It is little wonder, then, that God “now commands all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30), because “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). Now we should understand why Jesus Christ said, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men’” (Mark 7:6-7).

If you want God to hear your prayers, accept your praises of Him, and regard your gifts, you must listen to what Jesus Christ said: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16:15-16). “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8).

(#33) The Proverbs of Solomon 11:1-Cheaters, Beware!

Proverbs 10:1-24:34 are randomly written, as if they were Judgments Solomon made about individual cases brought to him for Divine Wisdom (1 Kings Chapters 3 and 10), or simply God-given explanations about life. New Testament passages may help see the continuation of Wisdom offered through Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 11:1: Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight.

Whatever is “an abomination to the LORD” is as despicable as anything can be, for that places it along with: dabblers in the supernatural, Deuteronomy 18:9-12; prostitution, Deuteronomy 23:18; perverse heart, Proverbs 11:20; lying lips, Proverbs 12:22; everyone proud in heart, Proverbs 16:5. “Dishonest scales” certainly fit in that list. God’s Law through Moses was very explicit about this matter: “You shall not have in your bag differing weights, a heavy and a light. You shall not have in your house differing measures, a large and a small. You shall have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure, that your days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD your God is giving you. For all who do such things, all who behave unrighteously, are an abomination to the LORD your God” (Deuteronomy 25:13-16). Anyone who carries “differing measures,” or different weights, is planning to deal unfairly with someone, somewhere, sometime. The “all who do such things” means the practice is wrong, no matter if someone is poor, disadvantaged, under a “glass ceiling,” prosperous, an official of a government, tax assessor, tax collector, manufacturer, or all such “excuses.” When people plan to “buy and sell and make a profit” (James 4:13), it should never be as God condemned in Amos 8:5: “Making the ephah small and the shekel large, Falsifying the scales by deceit.” The “ephah” would have measured the produce and the “shekel” the money to purchase it. Shortening the measurement and acting as if the money amount was larger within a transaction is abominable to God! That describes today’s making the container look the same size but putting less inside; artificially inflating costs by printing more money without value; raising “minimum wage” for the same or less work; shortchanging customers; raising prices while lowering benefits in contracts; or any of the myriad of ways the wicked will invent to “profit.” God’s “fair labor law” was that the “poor and needy” laborer should be paid when the work was done (Deuteronomy 24:14-15), not at the convenience of the employer, regardless of ethnicity! Other proverbs uphold this: Proverbs 20:10: “Diverse weights and diverse measures, They are both alike, an abomination to the LORD;” Proverbs 20:23: “Diverse weights are an abomination to the LORD, And dishonest scales are not good;” probably best summarized in Proverbs 20:14: “‘It is good for nothing,’ cries the buyer; But when he has gone his way, then he boasts.” Minimizing the product’s worth to get a good buy shows intent to deceive. Honest discounts, coupons, merchant sales, or actually factory defective products offered at low prices are not included in this proverb, however. Honest truly applies to economics as well as to words, deeds, relationships!

Studies in the Book of Proverbs #18: What God Hates

(#18) Six Hasty Misjudgments of Youth: 6:1-7-27 – ONE AT A TIME.

6:16-19: (4) Don’t Jump Into The Deep End!

“The world” God loved and gave His only begotten Son for (John 3:16) was humanity, not the globe, itself! But everybody in that “world” is lost unless, they, individually, accept and obey the offer to be saved through His Son (Mark 16:15, 16), for “the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one” (1 John 5:19).

Verse 16: God wants no one to be lost (2 Peter 3:9), but here are seven sins that God “hates.” An “abomination” to God is something that He judges horrible, shameful, immoral, disgusting, for which He has intense dislike, or hatred. There is no way anybody can consider him/herself safe, saved, loved, or forgiven who practices these sins. In fact, God hates those who decide to practice evil (Psalm 5:4-6).

Verse 17:

“A proud look:” Having an inflated opinion of oneself so that others are “beneath.” This comes from a degraded opinion of others, for whatever reason. “The wicked” have this look (Psalm 10:4), the young can develop this (1 Peter 5:5), a “generation” can have this (Proverbs 30:13), and so can politicians (Acts 12:20-24). It fits into a whole list of sins from “the last days” of the Jews in the First Century (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

“A lying tongue:” Lying is “but for a moment” (Proverbs 12:19), therefore it is not eternal truth. Since the Devil fathers all lies (John 8:44), then all liars will be Hell-bound (Revelation 21:8). God opposes false prophets (Ezekiel 33:8-9), and those who change His commandments in His Word (1 Timothy 4:1-5), for He makes lies have consequences (Hosea 10:13). Lying is deliberate tampering with truth either by adding falsehoods to it or hiding some of the truth from honest inquiry. This is not the same as not knowing all the truth (Acts 3:12-21), which may end in sin.

“Hands that shed innocent blood:” Babies are purely “innocent,” for unborn babies have done neither “good nor evil” (Romans 9:11). The “innocent” are listed with the “righteous” (Exodus 23:7), and it is an idolatrous society who “sheds innocent blood” (Psalm 106:34-39), as the Jews proved who crucified Jesus Christ (Acts 13:26-30). Those who “persecute” Christians “do not please God” (1 Thessalonians 2:14-16).

Verse 18:

“A heart that devises wicked plans:” God is ready to forgive those who are willing to repent and “be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38), but never to those whose hearts “devise wicked plans” (are set on finding wicked ways). This was the prevalent attitude that caused God to destroy the earth by flood in Noah’s day (Genesis 6:5), and describes complete corruption.

“Feet that are swift in running to evil:” These are “ambulance-chasers” of sin, finding attraction to anyone and everyone who has committed evil offense against God and man. Solomon has already warned his son of these people (Proverbs 1:15-16).

Verse 19:

“A false witness who speaks lies:” Lies used against others show reckless disregard not only for one’s own soul, but for others’ reputation, character, goods, or person. This phrase includes gossip, slander, defamation, whispering, back-biting, and anything else designed to falsely place a stigma on someone else (Proverbs 25:18; Romans 1:28-32). Even the courts of the land are hostile to this, calling it “perjury.” Sound Gospel Preachers will never stoop to such an abomination, or call it keeping the church pure.

“And one who sows discord among brethren:” The Word of God seeks to bring people together in Jesus Christ (John 17:20-21; Ephesians 4:1-6) because “how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1) The sowers of “discord” are working to directly destroy what God’s Gospel can achieve. Division in the churches of Christ never happen because of what the Bible says, but because of those who magnify and exploit differences, slights, misunderstandings, ignorance, and feelings over Scriptures. Since love is the “bond of perfection” (Colossians 3:14), sowers of discord attack the very heart of churches of Christ, and must be marked and avoided (Romans 16:17-18).

Sin Can Come In More Than One Color

Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a bad tooth and a foot out of joint.” (Proverbs 25:19)

I thought of this verse from Proverbs today when I saw a story on the news about a “United Church of Christ” congregation that decided to place a rainbow-colored banner in their “church” yard to welcome any and all “gay” Boy Scouts. One man from the “church” was interviewed and said he wanted to make sure that they [the homosexual children] knew that all of God’s children were welcome there. This man with his endorsement, on national TV, encouraged the practice of child homosexuality and wanted them to believe that God is accepting of it! That my friend, to say the least, is the epitome of a whole mouth full of spiritually broken teeth representing an unfaithful man not worthy of any spiritual confidence during this time of trouble!

The scriptures describe sin with the color of scarlet, but it’s obvious that sin can come in more one color. For a “church” to take a banner colored according to the very sign given to Noah after the world was judged due to sin and to endorse its meaning concerning homosexuality is more than unambiguous apostasy – it’s an abomination that attempts to pervert God’s grace to the core. Jude identified this mentality when he warned God’s church by saying, “For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Jude 4 – emphasis mine) This depraved “church” hasn’t challenged me – this depraved “church” has challenged and attempted to rebuke the authority of God. They have denied the Law of the Spirit of Life that leads to Jesus to endorse the lust of the flesh that leads to death. This “church” proves that having the name of Christ on their building proves nothing! They joyfully removed the “banner of the blood of the Lamb” and happily replaced it with a literal banner of sin. They have rejected God’s will and have belligerently forgotten that “…the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”” (2 Timothy 2:19).

If you are currently practicing a homosexual lifestyle or you have repented from such a sin, please do not place any faith in this “church’s” endorsement of homosexuality. Don’t trust your spiritual well-being with this thinking. Like all sins, with the exception of one, there is a basis found in the scriptures that shows forgiveness can be found for committing homosexual sins (1 Corinthians 6:9-11), but there is no basis whatsoever in the scriptures that God has ever or will ever spiritually accept homosexuality. Those who say anything contrary to that truth are guilty of the one sin to which there is no forgiveness, and that’s sinning against the Spirit of God by perverting His plain word, rejecting His obvious truth and leading others down a path they have labeled safe and celebratory when God has labeled it sinful and shameful in the Bible. The color and purpose behind God’s rainbow teaches us that sin will again be judged on a large-scale one day, and homosexuality is a weight that will keep a person out of Heaven no matter who places a banner in their yard. The colors of the rainbow don’t excuse sin, they teach that there’s such a thing as sin. The blood of Jesus can cover the sin represented by the rainbow-banner, but the blood of Jesus won’t mix with it.

When sin of any kind is the issue, then confidence must be had that the truth is being revealed concerning God’s will and that the solution through repentance and the blood of Jesus is given; but when an individual endorses sin instead of the solution to sin, then that person is like a broken tooth and a foot out of joint – they can’t be trusted and will remain useless spiritually…at least useless as far as any good thing is concerned. The invitation of the gospel of Christ remains open to any and all sinners, homosexual or not, who wish to find forgiveness; but forgiveness only comes through the grace of God that teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world (Titus 2:11-12). Those words are in black and white, no matter what their banner says or how bad they may want to “color” them.

But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.” (Jude 17-19)

The carnival card-reader has been displaced by the on-line psychic. It is not that the deception business is any less active, it simply became hi-tech. Now you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own home to curse your enemy or rid yourself of a voodoo spell. Before you google a personal consultation, may I remind you that Jehovah has something to say on the matter. God said that all fortune-telling, seancing, crystal ball-gazing and such-like are abominations before the Lord.
