“Blessing of the pooch”? – JAM

As autumn arrives, people in various places may notice something odd. A procession of animals, everything from dogs and cats to hamsters and horses, is led to Catholic churches for a special ceremony called the Blessing of Pets. This custom is conducted on St. Francis of Assisi Day, October 4th. This year the USA-Today carried a picture of a German shepherd getting blessed and titled it: “the blessing of the pooch.” While the ceremony is a cause for ridicule in the media and mockery among unbelievers, it should be admitted that the practice is entirely unbiblical and beneath serious Christian practice. Jesus blessed children, not pets, be they pooches or penguins. This is Just-A-Minute with Ed Boggess
