12-9-2015 Baby Jesus #1

This time of year, many celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, but do not seem to understand some things. For instance, God’s Son was born to a woman who did not believe in abortion. Though not the “mother of God,” Mary was chosen to bring forth the body for God’s Son. “The angel Gabriel” said to her: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35 NKJV). Had she feared for her own life, reputation, or future at work, she could have been scared into an abortion, but instead, she feared God. No righteous person can consistently accept the birth of the precious Jesus and believe that abortion is alright.

8-26-2015 Women’s Liberation

Eve’s sin brought this consequence upon all women: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you” (Genesis 3:16 NKJV). Paul endorsed this in 1 Corinthians 11:8-9, 12 NKJV: “For man is not from woman, but woman from man. Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man…For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman.” It was through women fulfilling their God-made person that, Jesus Christ, Himself came to save us, for “God sent forth His Son, born of a woman” (Galatians 4:4 NKJV). Women are saved the same as men: faith plus baptism (Galatians 3:26-29). “Women’s Liberation” is NOT from marriage or Motherhood, but from sin, in Jesus Christ.

Nudge: What is one of the things about me that people are surprised to learn?

I’m a southern gal. I’ve lived in the southeastern part of the USA all my life. I learned to read, write, talk, cook, extend courtesies, etc…, all in the south. I am quite proud of the fact that, even though I live close to Washington, DC, I still live below the Mason-Dixon line. And so, many people seem rather surprised to learn that I was actually born in NY. I neither sound nor act like the stereotypical north-easterner. I find myself having to explain the story of how I screamed at the top of my lungs non-stop for the first few months of my life because it was so COLD there, and how my parents decided to move south where I promptly settled in and became a very happy baby.

My husband likes to tease me about being a Yankee. However, I have news for him: I didn’t have a choice where I was born but I made it clear where I wanted to be. He, on the other hand, chose to marry me: a Yankee.

Single Worst Phrase

In my opinion, the single worst phrase, would have to be the rendering of Psalm 51:5 in the NIV:

“Surely I have been a sinner from birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.”

Many Ways to Heaven?

“Sixty-five percent of Americans who claim a religious affiliation take a non-exclusivist view of salvation, saying that many religions can lead to eternal life. Less than one-quarter say theirs is the one true faith leading to eternal life” (PWB, 10.16.09).

In today’s world, perhaps even in yesterday’s world, partisanship reigns supreme. In politics, I support my political party, and not yours; in football, my team is best, and yours is just part of the rest. Political parties, football teams, and anything else of this world is of no real consequence. That which is of great consequence is the Lord Jesus and His way. This includes His church. In Acts 4:12, Scripture teaches that there is no other name under heaven given to man whereby a person can be saved. The name of Jesus and His salvation is an exclusive matter. When Jesus said He would build His church (Matthew 16:13-19), those who would be part of the saved will be in His church (Ephesians 5:25-27), and they will refuse to be in any church with the name of a man assigned to it or any otherwise name assigned by man. Christmas just passed, would it not have been a good thing to think on Jesus’ mission (Luke 19:10) rather than worshipping His birth? Surely, it would, and that is what we should all do.
