  • Lakewood Church of Christ, Baytown, TX

Retail value of each shipment is approximately $95,000.

A thought worth considering:

Even though the media may leave in a day or a week or so, we will be working behind the scenes with the Church of Christ congregations in the area to help these families get back on their feet. We can’t do everything, for everyone, but we can show that the Church of Christ cares. We care for the well-being of all of God’s children, and we’re hoping that the churches we’re turning these supplies over to, so they can reach out to their neighbors, can touch some hearts, build some relationships, and during the process, bring some of the lost to Christ.

Do the math. No other work directly connected to the brotherhood is capable of taking on a task of this scope. I’m not trying to sound arrogant or dismissive, but this avenue represents the real red cross and actual salvation. And the people directly connected to the effort take their responsibility seriously.

If you or your congregation does not support this good work, please consider your personal participation, or (if you have congregational Bible study services on Wednesdays) try talking to the elders, or the congregation as a whole, this evening about supporting the efforts being made.

Good things are being done in the middle of terrible situations. And God, through the church and the gospel and works of love, is being the given the glory.

My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:18 NKJV)

Want to help Houston? Here’s how.

Want to …

… help the people of Houston?

… help the church?

… help others directly see the influential love of Jesus?

All of these can be done through the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, Inc.

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10 NKJV)

An opportunity to help out flood victims in Louisiana

As of August 23rd, the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort has sent at least 14 semi-truck loads of help to the Louisiana area. More shipments will follow, so if you’re looking for a way to help out the people who have been hit so hard by the recent flooding, you don’t have to look any further than the provided link above.

Looking to help out the State of South Carolina?

Looking to help out the people of South Carolina physically and spiritually? The Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort is the best way that I personally know of. I’m a personal supporter, and the congregation that I’m a member of supports the work as well. The relief effort has already made several trips to the area and there’s no doubt that they will be going back again. If you’re interested, you can check out the provided links below for more information:

  • Here’s a link to the Informational Video on YouTube that can be viewed below this list. (The video is slightly dated, but only in years and by no means in work. This video illustrates a few of the many, many times that the Nashville area media has covered the response of the relief effort, and it demonstrates how the effort works with local congregations so the ultimate glory goes to God through the local church and not a secular organization.)

Future Debate Over Present Day and Past Disasters

Before the terrible tornadoes (of this year) took place in Oklahoma I received a news letter from Apologetics Press that announced plans for a future debate between brother Kyle Butt of Apologetics Press and Professor Bart Ehrman who is an author and a self-proclaimed “agnostic” when it comes to the belief of the Christian God. Accordingly, the topic will revolve around the existence of pain and suffering and the existence of God and the compatibility or incompatibility of the two. Please keep brother Kyle and the efforts of Apologetics Press in your prayers.

Also, as I have said in the past, I would encourage those who have a desire to help with the relief effort in Oklahoma but no good means of doing so to keep The Churches of Christ Disaster Relief in mind. We support this effort at Keltonburg and I know that an untold number of lives have been physically and emotionally affected for the better as well as spiritually due to the many souls brought to Jesus through the help of this program and its efforts.
