Stand, 2 Chronicles 34.32

“Further, he made all who were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin stand [with him, in confirmation of it]. So the inhabitants of Jerusalem acted in accordance with the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.”

2 Chronicles 34.32 AMP

King Josiah instituted reforms in Judah. He read the law to the assembly of Israelites, vv. 29-30. He first committed himself to follow the law, v. 31. Then he called upon the people to do so.

The eternal covenant: Hebreus 13.20

“[T]he God of peace … by the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus …

The covenant of Christ is eternal because it is the definitive covenant established by his blood. The great plan of God reached its culmination in Christ. No other covenant will replace it. No one will come after him, because he fulfilled the will of God.

Since we live under this eternal covenant, we are freed from all others. We live under the law of grace. We are guided by the New Testament, not the Old. Let us live and proclaim Christ!

They closed the doors: 2 Chronicles 29.7

“They closed the doors of the temple porch and put out the lamps; they did not offer incense or burnt sacrifices in the sanctuary of the God of Israel.”

2 Chronicles 29.7

In this sad statement, Hezekiah reminded the Levites why God punished their fathers. Instead of keeping the covenant and obeying the Lord, they had other ideas.

How do people close the doors today when they follow their own ideas and fail to serve God?

Be quiet and pay attention: Deuteronomy 27.9 VOTD

“Then Moses and the Levitical priests spoke to all Israel: “Be quiet and pay attention, Israel. Today you have become the people of the Lord your God.”

Deuteronomy 27.9

Before crossing over the Jordan River to take possession of the promised land, Israel renewed their covenant with God. It required their full attention. Being God’s people meant listening to the Lord.

How do Christians renew their commitment to the Lord’s covenant in Christ? How do you renew your faithful dedication to God?
