‘Able to know your loving nature’: David Binkley

And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!” (Mark 15:37-39 ESV)

O LORD God – blessed is your name forever and ever! From your highest place that is invisible to any manmade sensory probes, we are able to know your loving nature. Thank you for showing us mercy when your Son came to this world to bring us freedom from the death penalty we face because of our sins. Forgive us dear Father as we forgive others and purposefully follow Christ each day. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

David Binkley’s Prayer: 2 Cor 9.6-7

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:6-7 ESV)

O LORD, our immortal, invisible, powerful and only wise God! Hear the prayers dear Father, of your children today that surely brings news of hope for those who seek to know your will. As we consider that you treat us as kings and queens because we follow your Son, help us to cheerfully open our heart and hands to those in need of your gracious plan of salvation. Use us in some way to bring the saving light of your word to those drowning in the darkness of sin’s grip. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

David Binkley prayer: 2 Corinthians 6.1-2

“Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For he says, ‘In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:1-2 ESV)

O Sovereign LORD God, our dear heavenly Father ~ awaken the senses you have given us so that we will not miss any communication that comes to us from your inspired word. Give us the desire for things that are righteous. Because we know you favor those with pure hearts. Help our relatives, friends and neighbors near and far to realize the brief span of our earthly life. Grant leaders in all the churches that belong to Christ, the necessary wisdom and courage to boldly proclaim the message of your grace that is for all people. Arouse a sense of urgency in those who teach and those who learn, so that everyone may have an opportunity to be saved today. We ask these things according to your eternal purpose for all people. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

But you, O GOD my Lord, deal on my behalf for your name’s sake; because your steadfast love is good, deliver me! (Psalm 109:21 ESV)

WORD OF THE DAY – Saturday 14 November 2015

And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
(Hebrews 10:10)

O God, our dear heavenly Father, we exalt you above all that exists above and beyond the farthest reaches of the known universe. You are the Creator and Sustainer of life for every being. Thank you for sending your Son who offered his own body as the acceptable sacrifice for the sins of all who will come to him in faith. Help us to be more keenly aware that we no longer need to offer all kinds of sacrifices that never removed sins; since our Savior has cleansed our sins and declared us to be righteous. Give us wisdom so that we will live as those who have been set apart as examples of those who trust and obey Christ as Lord. We pray with hope and love in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

WORD OF THE DAY – Friday 13 November 2015

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. (Hebrews 9:27-28)

O God, our dear Father in heaven ~ we hallow your glorious name in our hearts on this new day as we consider our terminal nature and look forward to our coming king Jesus who now reigns from his regal heavenly throne. We give the highest praise for that Christ your dear Son and our Savior offered himself as the only worthy sacrifice for our many sins. Moreover we look forward to seeing Christ when he comes to take us home to live with him forever. We pray with the joy of faith and hope in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

WORD OF THE DAY – Thursday 12 November 2015

For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord GOD; so turn, and live.” (Ezekiel 18:32 ESV)

Hear our prayers on this new day O LORD our God and dear Father in heaven ~ we confess that we have often turned our eyes off the prize that waits for every faithful believer. Stir up within our hearts the realization that no church can repent for my sins, nor any governor, president, king, judge, or any preacher, rabbi, priest or pope. We alone stand before your perfect and holy presence in need of forgiveness. Give us a revived and clean heart and spirit as we turn from sin in sincere repentance. Forgive us of our sins as we forgive others. We earnestly pray in the precious name of Jesus, who took our sins upon himself at the cross where he died. Amen.

Death is only a door
Set in a garden wall.
On quiet hinges it gives at dusk,
When the thrushes call.
Along the lintel are green leaves,
Beyond, the light lies still;
Very weary and willing feet
Go over that sill.
There is nothing to trouble any heart,
Nothing to hurt at all,
Death is only an old door
In a garden wall.

Death Is A Door
