5-11-2016 The Devil You Say #1

Jesus said “the devil…was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it” (John 8:44-45 NKJV).  The Devil has no respect for human life, for he murders.  He has no truth, but only distorts or ignores the truth.  He is the originator (“father”) of lies, intended to deceive.  All this “from the beginning.”  Beginning of what?  “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1 NKJV), and Genesis 3 is where “the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness” (2 Corinthians 11:3).  Jesus said, the final Judgment will send the “cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41 NKJV).  Don’t follow the Devil now, or forever!

5-12-2016 The Devil You Say #2

The Devil doesn’t “make” anyone sin, but encourages an individual’s decision to sin!  Judas Iscariot, is a case in point.  He “was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it” (John 12:6 NKJV).  He “was a thief” before he was a betrayer.  He “went to the chief priests and said, ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?’ And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him” (Matthew 26:14-16 NKJV).  “Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve” (Luke 22:2-3 NKJV). Afterward, at the Lord’s Supper, “after the piece of bread, Satan entered him” (John 13:27 NKJV).  Satan was in control because Judas had given Him control.  However, the Devil can be resisted.

1-22-2016 Lucifer Is Not The Devil

“How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations!” (Isaiah 14:12 NKJV). This is the only reference to “Lucifer” in the entire Bible, and there is nothing in Isaiah 14 to indicate that this refers to Satan or, the Devil. Instead, this is a direct reference to Nebuchadnezzar, for God told Isaiah to “take up this proverb against the king of Babylon” (Isaiah 14:4 NKJV). Verse 12 says nothing about the Devil as a fallen angel, with a goatee, or with evil powers! Everyone who identifies “Lucifer” with the Devil shows ignorant misunderstanding of the Bible. Worldly-minded people have latched onto this mythical misunderstanding in books, TV series, and artwork. Christians must “shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness” (2 Timothy 2:16 NKJV).

    11-19-2015 Why Blame God

Whenever disaster or evil-inflicted events occur, people are quick to blame God for that evil. They ignore 2 important facts: (1) The Devil is real and against us. Jesus went “through death” to destroy “him who had the power of death that is, the devil” (Hebrews 2:14). The Devil makes death horrible to see. (2) Evil is in the world because people have not listened to God. “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting” (Romans 1:28 NKJV). Jesus “learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him” (Hebrews 5:8-9 NKJV). Jesus said: “He who believes and is baptized will be saved” (Mark 16:16 NKJV).

    2-26-2015           Propaganda?

Propaganda is “deceptive or distorted information that is systematically spread,” that’s another way of saying, a lie repeated over and over and over. “Advertising” or “marketing” can become propaganda if its intention is to deceive. “A false witness shall perish, But the man who hears him will speak endlessly” (Proverbs 21:28 NKJV). People who are given propaganda which has little, or no, fact behind it, will “endlessly” repeat it, thinking they have been given truth. Jesus warned, “They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.” (Matthew 15:14 NKJV). Whatever people repeat that contradicts God’s Truth is a “lie,” “Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar” (Romans 3:4 NKJV). Jesus said the Devil is the “father” of lies (John 8:44 NKJV).

    Making the choice for Satan

Last time we looked at the reasons we should choose God as our master. Now we will look into the second choice for a master; that is Satan.

Some might think that no one chooses Satan as their master; however those who think that way are wrong. Maybe a person doesn’t make that choice directly but an examination of scripture will show that by not choosing God, you are automatically making the choice for Satan. (More …)

Cindy, the elephant, is meaner than a junk-yard dog. Experts call the 2-ton pachyderm, a resident of the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, Washington, the meanest elephant in America. A few years ago zoo officials were faced with a dilemma. They feared so much for the welfare of the staff that the city considered either to sell Cindy–assuming they could get a taker–or hire an expert to re-train her. Zoo director Gene Leo said the 20-yr.-old Cindy, who was raised at the zoo since she was 3-yrs.-old, has hit, picked up & thrown several zoo workers. Are you surprised they have kept her this long? Satan destroys lives, wrecks homes, enslaves and damns but his disciples continue to serve him. Through alcohol, drugs, immorality, false doctrine, and more; Satan leads the multitude to their destruction. Through Jesus they are able to throw off his yoke, yet they continue to follow him. Your life is controlled by one of two beings. The choice is yours!

God has given man the opportunity to choose to serve either Christ as master or Satan as master. There are many contrasts in the Bible concerning Jesus and Satan that should help us make our decision.

It is an obvious truth that you cannot serve both Christ and Satan. (More …)

    Quiet killer

In James 1:13-25 James tells us where sin begins and how it progresses to finally bring us to death. It doesn’t begin with someone else even though they may have an influence up on us. Sin begins with us. It may begin without warning, very quietly and with powerful deception.

My wife and I were already at the church building one Sunday morning. We received a call from a friend who said that his family needed help. My Lady left quickly and we to their house and found the parents and three children very, very ill. She believed that she knew what the problem was and immediately opened all the windows and doors in the house and called for medical help. It wasn’t long until they began to feel better and shortly after it was discovered that they had a faulty heating system and the house was filling with deadly carbon monoxide. There was no odor or smell but they could have easily died from this undetectable poison.

Sin may affect us the same way. It may be so obscure that we do not even notice it at first. But, it continues it’s intrusion into our lives and can surely lead us to death. That means that we must exercise every precaution to prevent sin’s overpowering us. What can we do?

    • First, we must use God’s word to fight back at the devil. James 4:8. If we do not take up the sword of the Spirit and use it against Satan, he will overcome us.
    • Second, we must pray without ceasing asking God to help us be strong and faithful.
    • Third, we must choose our friends carefully. A real and true friend will aid us in our effort to live for Jesus. But, those who do not share our faith and commitment to God will often become part of the problem that we are fighting against. Make sure that your friends are not a hindrance to your living the Christian life.

    With Much Love,

Hell is not the Devil’s Domain

Many people in the world (both religious and secular alike) misunderstand what the Bible teaches concerning the one called Satan and the place called Hell. Many are under the impression that the Devil sits upon some throne ruling over the place of punishment. What they fail to realize is that this place of punishment will be taking its toll upon the Devil too. Hell isn’t a place prepared by the Devil – it’s prepared for the Devil!

Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:” (Matthew 25:41)

    Live prisoners

If you were a prisoner of war, would you rather be eliminated by your enemy, or forced to do his bidding? It seems that if you are going to be killed anyway there would be less pain and anxiety in death than there would be in the torture that would come before it. Perhaps you are thinking that if you were alive, there might at least be some hope of release or escape.

When Paul wrote to Timothy concerning his ministry to the church, while he was giving him tips on how to be a gentle servant in the kingdom he included these verses – “in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will” (2 Tim. 2:25-26).

Pay special attention to the phrase, “having been taken captive by him to do his will.” The original language of this text expresses the fact that Satan is taking live prisoners! Many people think that the battle between God and the devil is being played out just between the two of them. They think that whatever influence the devil may have is only going to be seen in judgment.

But the devil is not waiting for judgment! He already knows he loses on that day. The devil’s work is in lives that exist today. Paul is saying that most people don’t realize that they are the devil’s live prisoners. But Satan has them and they are doing what he wants them to do. The only way they can “come to their senses” or “escape” from their terrible situation is through the wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ which will bring them to repentance.

Satan is deceptive! He wants you to think that you are free when you are really his slave. He wants you to think that your life is really going fine when in actuality the life that you are living is full of problems which if not dealt with will eventually lead you to hell. The devil means business. Don’t be foolish. He is working on you. He won’t just kill you when he gets a hold of you. He has no interest in that. He wants to keep you alive so that you can serve him.

“But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness” (Romans 6:17-18)

The devil is doing it again (Charles Box)

The Devil is not eternal like God, but he is just as real. The Bible says that Satan is the deceiver of the entire world. “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” (Revelation 12:9)

The Devil is busy seeking man’s spiritual destruction. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” (1 Peter 5:6-9)

The Devil caused sin to be in the world. (Genesis 3) Sickness, death, disappointment and discouragement are all the working of Satan. Man is tempted to sin, but he is not tempted by God. “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.” (James 1:13) The Devil perverts the word of God. He perverted God’s truth and lead Eve astray. God said,

“And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Genesis 2:16-17)

The Devil was able to pervert what God said with one word. He told Eve, “Ye shall not surely die.” (Genesis 3:4) He deceived Eve. God said “Eat and you will die!” The Devil said “Eat and you will not die!”

The Devil deceived Eve by adding “Not” to what God said and he is doing the same thing again today.

#1. God says the Bible does contain all things that pertain unto life and godliness; the Devil says the Bible does not contain all things that pertain unto life and godliness, instead we need additional revelation.

We read, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” (2 Peter 1:3) Humanity has truly been blessed by God with this great gift, the Bible. If we appreciate having the Bible we should study it daily. The people of Berea demonstrated the attitude that we should have toward the Bible. “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” (Acts 17:11) Our personal Bible study should produce a sincere desire for obedience from the heart. (Romans 1:5)

#2. God says baptism is essential to salvation; the Devil says baptism is not essential to salvation.

Baptism is a very important and often misunderstood subject. Baptism is important because it is commanded by Christ. Jesus said, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” (Mark 16:16) Baptism is to be done by the authority of Jesus with its purpose being remissions of sins. (Acts 2:38) The blood of Jesus was shed in His death. “But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.” (John 19:34) Baptism is important because it brings one into contact with the death and blood of Jesus. “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:3-4)

#3. God says the one church of the Bible is necessary, the Devil says the one church of the Bible is not necessary.

The church in the Bible was paid for by the blood of Christ. “…feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” (Acts 20:28) God’s church is those “people” that were purchased with Christ’s blood. The church was never a physical building nor was it a denomination. Christ died to purchase and cleanse the church. “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.” (Ephesians 5:25) Christ is the Savior of the church. “For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.” (Ephesians 5:23) If a person is saved he is a member of the blood bought church of Christ. Salvation and membership in Christ’s church is the same thing. God adds the saved, and only the saved, to the church. “…And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” (Acts 2:47) Are you a member of the church you can read about in the New Testament? Salvation and membership in the church of Christ is the same thing. You are not saved outside of the church.

#4. God says division or denominationalism is wrong, the Devil says division or denominationalism is not wrong.

When the word “church” is used, many people think of the building in which the church meets. The Bible never speaks of the church as a physical building. The church in the Bible is always saved people. According to Acts 11:22 the church has ears. Many view the “church” as a group made up of all denominations. A denomination is a religious group separated from others by a particular name or doctrine.

Denominationalism is opposed to the will of God. “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” (1 Corinthians 1:10) In Ephesians 4:4-6 the Bible teaches that there is one church or one body. This one church is the body of Christ. “And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” (Ephesians 1:22-23) In the Bible there is one body or one church. Today, however, there are hundreds of “churches” in the world.

All who comply from the heart with the conditions set forth in the Bible become Christians; they are members of the Lord’s church. (Acts 2:47) To become a Christian, you must believe (Mark 16:16), repent of sins (Acts 2:38), confess Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9-10), and be baptized into Christ. (Galatians 3:27) Are you a part of the blood bought church of Christ?

    Where Does Evil Come From?

In my article today I examine the darkness of evil as illustrated by the Nazis. I hope you will read it and share it with others. The tagline for my Facebook post is, “Evil enters our hearts when we leave the door open.”

We see the evil in our world and we have to wonder where all of it comes from. No one is born evil (Ezekiel 18), so it comes from somewhere.

I like the line from the Woody Allen film, “Hannah and her Sisters.” Max von Sydow plays a professor who was discussing a show where historians wondered why the Holocaust happened.

Sydow’s character said, “The reason they can’t find the answer is because they are asking the wrong question. The question is not how did it happen but why doesn’t it happen more often?”

We focus on the Jewish Holocaust as if it is the only one in history. However, genocide has existed since time began in one form of another. Ask the Serbs.

Evil has an origin and it enters the hearts of men if we allow it. Read the chilling illustration I use today and you won’t likely forget it any time soon.

    The Devil’s Beatitudes

We all know that  he  does  not  have   anything  good  about  him, but if  he  had  some  beatitudes,  here’s  how they  might  go– Hope  that  we   don’t  know any Christians  who  fit them.

    • Blessed are they who are too tired and too busy  to  go to  church on Sunday, for they are  my  best workers.
    • Blessed  are  they who  gossip, for they cause strife and divisons that  please me.
    • Blessed is  he  who professes  to  love  God, but  hates  his  brother and  sister, for  he shall be with me forever.
    • Blessed are the  trouble-makers, for they shall be callled  “the children of the devil.”
    • Blessed is the one  who is easily  offended, for she shall soon get  angry and quit.      (Sel.)
